We’ve Been Straight Line Fence Since 2012
Before we started Straight Line Fence, we’d sit in meetings every week, discussing the same problems we had discussed the week before. Problems with installations. Problems with customers. Problems with processes.
We never solved the problems. We just talked about them.
The industry had it backwards.
Companies were protecting their processes instead of protecting their customers. Maximizing margins instead of investing in mastery and employees.
So in 2012, we left. We chose to start the fence company that should have existed all along.
Business consultants would have told us we were insane.
While the industry hired whoever showed up, we created two-year apprenticeships.
While others cut healthcare, we covered 100%.
While others avoided repair work, we showed up for elderly customers who needed help, even when margins were thin.
We used tools from our own garages. Fixed fences for less than it cost us. Spent money we didn’t have on doing things right.
Here’s what the consultants didn’t understand: When you treat craftsmen like craftsmen, they create masterwork. When you treat customers like neighbors, they become advocates.
Today, three generations work at Straight Line Fence. Not because we recruited them, because craftsmen recognize craftsmanship.
Our commercial services don’t just bid on projects. We write the specifications architects use. When tens of millions of dollars are at stake, general contractors call us because we know things they don’t, and we’ll make sure the work is done right.
Our installers? The youngest learned from someone who learned from someone who’s been perfecting this craft since before they were born. That knowledge doesn’t come from training videos. It comes from standing next to someone in a Michigan winter, learning why you dig holes instead of driving posts.
